Als wir Nightfall aufgenommen haben, war das Lied eigentlich schon drei Jahre alt. Damals im Jahr 1998 hab ich mich gerade bemüht, Texte zu schreiben, denen zwar eine durchdachte Situation zu Grunde lag, die diese Situation aber nicht konkret zur Sprache brachten, sondern nur kurze Momentaufnahmen oder vielmehr Gedankenströme waren. Dem Leser/Zuhörer die Freiheit zu geben, durch seine eigene Interpretation etwas für sich selbst aus dem Text herauszuholen, das ist auch heute noch ein wichtiges Anliegen, wobei ich dieses Ziel bei weitem nicht in jedem Text verfolge.
Die Musik für Nightfall ist im Vergleich minimal: Klavier, Streicher, Stimme; eine Gitarre als Ergänzung war mal geplant, ist dann aber zugunsten eines unkomplizierteren Arrangements rausgeflogen. Die Streicher machen einen wesentlichen Bestandteil der Atmosphäre aus und unterstreichen sprichwörtlich die emotionalen Höhen und Tiefen des erzählenden Charakters.
